

Both of those are about one mile of walking each way, so twice as far, but they are pleasant walks. The other two options are (1) the parking lot for the national park visitor center off Highway 19 and (2) the parking lot for Kaloko Fishpond. Look for excellent tide pools along the way. Youll find this beautiful little beach just south of the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park and the Aiopio Fish Ponds. Follow signs on the path for Aimakapa Fishpond and you’ll be at Honokohau Beach in about a half mile of walking. The beauty of Umluj Beach shall rightly be known as the Saudi Maldives. The shortest option is to park in the parking area for Aiopio Fishtrap Beach at the NW corner of Honokohau Harbor and walk into the park from there. Umluj beach has smooth island sand, historic and archeological richness and its natural islands and beaches. There are three ways to get to Honokohau Beach. It is part of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. Features Alula Beach is a secluded cove that is located at the west end of Honokohau Marina & Small Boat Harbor. It’s surrounded by lush vegetation, but the south end isn’t very attractive as there is unsightly items laying around. The fishpond behind the beach is large and feels more like a lake. Swimming is possible and the best place to get in is near the center of the beach were the entrance is deeper and less rocky, but watch for rip currents. The slope of the beach is steep and it’s more of a sandy dunes structure separating the ocean from the pond. You also have access to all the five-star facilities of neighbouring Banyan Tree hotel. It’s a great place to relax and watch the waves rolling in. Since you have to walk the shoreline from other points in the park, this one doesn’t get a lot of visitors.
